Forty years to the day after John McCain’s A-4 Skyhawk was shot down over North Vietnam on Oct. 26, 1967, McCain reunited Friday with longtime fellow POW Col. Bud Day in Sioux City to begin a joint campaign swing through Northwest Iowa.

This week we launched a new television ad in New Hampshire featuring John McCain at the Fox News Debate last Sunday. During the debate, John McCain received a standing ovation when he pointed out Hillary Clinton’s support of a $1 million earmark for the Woodstock concert museum. Other candidates talk about stopping wasteful spending, but John McCain is the one man who has made fiscal responsibility a centerpiece of his career.

October 26, 1967 was the day Senator John McCain was shot down over Hanoi, and nearly lost his life. Not a good day at all. But, here we are some 40 years later: older, wiser and still fighting the good fight, and no one fights it better than our pal, John McCain.

John McCain’s presidential campaign today announced that this evening’s AARP Presidential Candidate Forum in Sioux City, Iowa will be a joint forum featuring Sen. John McCain and Gov. Mike Huckabee. John McCain issued the following statement on the forum intended as a discussion on health care and financial security:

John McCain’s presidential campaign today released a new television ad, entitled “Woodstock,” to run in New Hampshire.  The new ad focuses on John McCain’s commitment to eliminating wasteful pork-barrel spending as opposed to Senator Hillary Clinton, who has in her short time in the Senate come to symbolize the problem of outrageous overspending in Washington.

Forty years ago today, a young Naval Officer, John McCain, was assigned to a dangerous mission. He and the others in his flight were to fly “downtown,” to the center of Hanoi, and bomb the thermal power plant.

John McCain is much more than the war guy. What many Americans know about him is that he was a Vietnam POW and is a defender of the U.S. presence in Iraq.

John McCain and I have a personal interest in the success of the war in Iraq. Our sons are fighting in it. When we take positions on the war, it is personal. There are ramifications for our country and our families. We don’t assert our opinions with disregard.

It is routine for policymakers to focus on the events of the day, and nowhere is this truer than in the Middle East, where we confront immediate crises and challenges.  It is imperative, however, that U.S. foreign policy not merely lurch from crisis to crisis, but rather approaches events in the Middle East in strategic fashion, with not only our short term objectives in mind, but our medium and long terms ones as well.

John McCain’s presidential campaign today released a new television ad, entitled “Tied Up,” to run in New Hampshire.  The new ad highlights John McCain’s classic line from the GOP debate this week in Florida opposing Senator Clinton’s attempt to spend $1 million in taxpayers’ money for a Woodstock Museum in New York.

Republican presidential hopeful John McCain said yesterday that a new message from Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden scolding his followers in Iraq is proof that American efforts in that country are succeeding.

John McCain’s presidential campaign today announced the addition of Dan Hughes as state Vice Chair of its New Hampshire leadership team. Hughes, previously involved with Fred Thompson’s New Hampshire campaign, is the latest addition to the growing grassroots organization in support of John McCain’s candidacy in the Granite State.
